i was so right

i have suspected for a while now that allergies were to blame for a lot of issues beckett (and his parents!) deal with.  he has a cough at least 50% of the time, runny nose, sneezing, can't breathe etc....and we all know about his eczema.  i knew there was NO WAY he could be catching cold after cold.  but every time i asked the pediatrician about allergies, he would recommend something over the counter and just say he was too young to be really treated for allergies.  i finally got tired of listening to the same shit and just made an appointment with a specialist...and i am so glad i did!!

the boy is allergic to...EVERYTHING :( basically

the test was super cool.  they make a grid and put 24 pricks in his back...with a little bit of each allergy? on each prick...i don't know the scientific way to say all of this!  i sound like an idiot...whatev.

so this is a few minutes after they put the "allergies" on.  you can see all of the little specimens...

we were armed with gum and tom & jerry on DVD.  he has to lay there while it is burning/itching the hell out of him for 20 minutes...enough time for the reactions to take place...

so as you can see here, he was allergic to almost every one!!!  if a hive/redness develops around the dot of allergy...bingo, he is allergic!

seriously!?!??!

again, he did SOOO good.  beckett loves this kind of thing...where all of the attention is on him & candy is involved.  he talked about getting to go for days and then told the doctor he loved him :)

sorry this is so WORDY!!!  but this is the part where is gets tricky.  the doc comes in and says he is the youngest kid he has ever seen with allergies this severe.  awesome.  I WAS SO RIGHT :)  not that i want to be!!  and you won't believe what he is most allergic to...

major.

yup...dogs are his arch enemy apparently (you can measure the severity of each allergy on a scale of 1-4).  the doctor recommended finding a new home for major but understood that some people just aren't willing to go that route.  we could try to treat beckett with allergy shots or keep major COMPLETELY isolated from beckett.  impossible. he said that really wouldn't work anyways because the pet dander is in the air.  we have already made up our minds that the maj  has got to go.  i know...it is SO sad.  it really is...but it is more sad too hear beckett coughing ALL NIGHT...unable to breathe.  he is already on inhalers, prescription nasal spray, etc.  i am not going to put him through allergy shots too...

so there it is.  anybody want a yorkie??

a big thanks to tom & jerry for making the test possible...

and the proof...not that anyone would suspect i was telling a fib just to get rid of the maj!!!!!
there were 24 tests and he is allergic to all but FOUR.  he is the boy in the bubble :)
so let me know if you or someone you know wants a really sweet, cute, 10 year old yorkie.  he loooooves children.  well, maybe not so much beckett anymore!

  2. Aww, poor guy! Kendall cried thru the entire test! It looks like he did awesome!! I totally understand having a kid that is sick all the time. Kendall's not been sick once since we had the allergy testing done. Hopefully the same will be true for Beckett and at least you know what to avoid!!

  4. You may have just inspired me to seek out a specialist for James...eczema, sick all the time, snotty and coughing most days. He's already on kids Allegra everyday (at 11 mos. of age!), and he has an inhaler too. Who did you go to?
